Grooms entering South Carolina's 1st District race

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - The filing period has not even opened and South Carolina's 1st District congressional race is getting still another candidate.

State Sen. Larry Grooms is announcing Thursday that he will be run for the GOP nomination in the district along the state's south coast. And Teddy Turner, the son of media magnate Ted Turner, is also holding a reception to kick off his campaign.

Former Gov. Mark Sanford announced his candidacy on Wednesday with a press announcement and a series of media interviews.

Filing opens on Friday at noon for the seat left vacant when Gov. Nikki Haley appointed Tim Scott to fill the U.S. Senate seat held by Jim DeMint who resigned.
