Deputies track down woman after finding wrecked car in Awendaw

AWENDAW, SC (WCSC) - Charleston County detectives have made contact with a 45-year-old West Ashley woman after alcohol was found inside her wrecked car in Awendaw late Wednesday, authorities say.

According to sheriff's office spokesman Major Jim Brady, deputies found Carolyn Blocker's black Chrysler 300M in a ditch on Guerrin's Bridge Road, off Highway 17, around 11 p.m.

Deputies found alcohol and a cell phone showing a call had been made around 9:45 p.m. inside the car.

Brady says detectives were able to make contact with Blocker around 11:30 a.m. Thursday morning. The accident is still being investigated.

Brady said a witness told investigators a woman matching Blocker's description and an unknown man got out of the vehicle and asked for a ride to the Halfway Creek Road area.  The witness said neither Blocker nor her passenger appeared to be injured.

That witness told deputies she told Blocker and the passenger that EMS and law enforcement had been called.

The witness said a white pickup truck then pulled up and appeared to be picking up the two individuals.

A family member of Blocker's told investigators the 45-year-old had been headed to Santee before the accident and may have been in the Santee area around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

A check of area hospitals and the location in Santee proved negative on locating Blocker. A reverse 911 was sent out in the surrounding area of the accident and the Sheriff's Office helicopter and Sheriff's Office K-9 responded to check the area for Blocker.

An investigation is ongoing.
