ANDERSON, SC (WYFF) -

An Upstate man is headed to prison for killing his pregnant girlfriend.

Keith Rucker pled guilty to voluntary manslaughter and death of a child in utero.

Judge Cordell Maddox sentenced Rucker to 47 years in prison on Wednesday.

On Jan. 18, 2011, when Kacey Roberson failed to pick up her two children from day-care, the school contacted her stepfather to have him do a well-being check.

When the stepfather arrived at the home, he found Roberson lying in the floor with her head covered in blood.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Anderson County Coroner Greg Shore said Roberson died from strangulation and was struck multiple times in the head.

Roberson was 16 weeks pregnant at the time of her death.

The victim's car was found abandoned in Lavonia, Ga.

Rucker turned himself in to the Lavonia Police Department and was returned to Anderson.

"I hope each day he is behind bars will serve as a continual reminder to him of his actions and of the two innocent lives that he took," said Solicitor Chrissy Adams.
