Sangaree schools placed on alert status

SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) - Three Sangaree schools were placed on alert status Thursday morning while authorities investigated a "potential community disturbance," school officials said.

Berkeley County School District spokesperson Susan Haire said Sangaree Elementary School, Sangaree Intermediate School, and Sangaree Middle School were all placed on alert status while Berkeley County Sheriff's Office deputies investigated the area.

A number of viewers told us the "disturbance" arose after a strange man was sighted in the area around 9 a.m.

Deputies performed a thorough sweep of the area and determined there was no threat, and the schools were taken off alert status a short time later, Haire said.
