MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) - The Patriots Point Development Authority took a big step towards the development of a permanent location for the national Medal of Honor museum at Patriots Point.
On Friday, the development authority board unanimously passed a resolution outlining a set of terms for leasing land.
Officials at Patriots Point say the resolution provides the legal framework that will allow them to begin raising the money to build the museum.
The final agreement must be approved by the state budget and control board and agreed to by the national medal of honor museum foundation prior to being implemented.
"We are excited to take this step forward toward the development of a permanent location for the national Medal of Honor Museum at Patriots Point," said Patriots Point Executive Director Mac Burdette. "This step puts the partnership between Patriots Point and the Medal of Honor Museum Organizing Committee within legal framework that will allow them to begin raising the money to build the museum. As our Chairman stated today, this will be a wonderful development for the Charleston area and South Carolina, as well as our country."
