NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Emergency officials say a North Charleston hotel was evacuated Monday morning following a report of smoke.

According to the North Charleston Fire Department, firefighter crews responded to the Hilton Garden Inn on International Boulevard at 9:15 a.m.

Authorities say guests and staff at the hotel evacuated as firefighters looked for the cause.

Bianca Sancic with the NCFD says crews determined that a belt on an air handler caused the smoke and that there was no active fire.

Sancic says crews isolated the power on the air handler and told hotel management to contact a repair technician.
