CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

The Diocese of Charleston is holding a special Mass on Tuesday to mark the 40th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court's decision to legalize abortion.

The Mass led by Bishop Robert E. Guglielmone will be held in the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist at 120 Broad Street at 12:05 p.m.

Bishop Guglielmone will pray for the sanctity of human life and for the healing of those affected by abortion.

The U.S. bishops have designated January 22 as a day of prayer and penance for life, for "violations to the dignity of the human person committed through abortion, and of prayer for the full restoration of the legal protection of unborn children."
