WEST ASHLEY, SC (WCSC) -

Police arrested a man last week charged with attempting to hold up a juvenile outside a Chinese restaurant in West Ashley earlier this month.

According to the Charleston Police Department, 34-year-old Antonio Smalls was taken into custody at 1968 Meeting Street Road just after 8 p.m. Friday.

Smalls is charged with attempted armed robbery after police say he approached a juvenile outside Tenichi China Buffet, located at 1940 Sam Rittenberg Boulevard, and brandished a large kitchen knife on Jan. 3.

The incident happened just after 10:30 p.m., according to an incident report.

Smalls, a North Charleston man, was taken to the Charleston County Detention Center.  He was later granted a $50,000 bond, but he remains behind bars.
