CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A dog has recovered after being pulled from pluff mud in Hollywood last week, and he's got a fitting new name, and a new owner.
Muddy Waters, a Poodle mix, looks great now, but he was a sight to see last week.
"A Good Samaritan pulled him out of the mud where he was stuck and animal control officers brought him into us…but his hair was so matted up…and obviously [the dog had been] neglected for a long time," said Charleston Animal Society CEO Joe Elmore.
"He's just a good dog…he's got a really good temperament as you can see."
Charleston Animal Society workers Paul Aytes and Robert Blasingame detailed the hard work that went into making Muddy look pretty again.
"His head was one solid mat…our vets decided he needed to be sedated immediately […] It takes a relatively lengthy process just because you have to shave one spot, and you have to work your way from top to back that way," they said, "And we actually had to stop and let the clippers cool off because they get really hot and it burns their skin if you just keep going."
Animal society workers said Muddy stayed sweet and calm throughout the process, despite the stressful situation he recently endured.
Muddy, who was neutered on Wednesday, will meet his new adoptive parents on Thursday morning.
