WEST ASHLEY, SC (WCSC) -
A 32-year-old man told police he was shot while riding his bicycle in a West Ashley neighborhood on Wednesday.
According to Charleston police spokesman Charles Francis, the shooting occurred around 8:40 p.m. at the corner of Davidson Avenue and East Street, in the Maryville neighborhood.
Francis said late Wednesday a male victim was shot in the hip and ran to a house on 5th Avenue where the residents called authorities. An incident report report released on Thursday indicates the victim was on his bicycle when the shooting happened.
The report states the victim rode his bike to his uncle's house, who called police.
Officers say the victim was taken to MUSC and is alert and conscious.
Authorities searched the area for a suspect Wednesday, but were unsuccessful.
