CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

Charleston resident Bobbie Rose has announced Thursday night that she will seek the Democratic nomination for the 1st Congressional District seat.

Rose will run in the upcoming special election for the seat previously held by Senator Tim Scott. Rose says she's will file with the state Democratic Party on Friday.

Rose is now the third democrat seeking the 1st District Congressional seat. Fifteen candidates are running for the 1st Congressional District Seat overall.

"We understand that we must work together to address our sluggish economy and our mounting debt, while fulfilling our promises to our seniors, our families, and our Veterans. We must also continue to demand for women full rights and protection under the law. Our future depends on our commitment to working together for the good of our country rather than political party," said Rose.

This will be Rose's second run for public office. In 2012, she ran against incumbent Tim Scott for the 1st Congressional District Seat.

The 1st Congressional District extends through parts of five South Carolina counties. They include: Charleston, Dorchester, Berkeley, Beaufort and Colleton.
