CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - Episcopal congregations in eastern South Carolina remaining with the national church say they will abide by a court order restraining them from using the name the Episcopal Diocese of South Carolina.

A state judge issued the order in a lawsuit brought by the diocese that split with the national church last year in disputes over ordination of gays.

Nineteen parishes and six worship groups are remaining with the national Episcopal church. The presiding bishop comes to Charleston this weekend for a convention to elect a provisional bishop for those parishes staying with the national denomination..

A spokeswoman for the group, Holly Behre, says the group will adopt a name that will comply with the spirit of the court order until the matter is resolved.
