School bus fire put out in McClellanville; only 4 students aboard

MCCLELLANVILLE, SC (WCSC) - A school bus driver extinguished a fire aboard a bus in McClellanville on Tuesday, according to the Charleston County Sheriff's Office.

Major Jim Brady, sheriff's office spokesman, said deputies responded to Highway 17 in McClellanville, in front of St. James-Santee Elementary School, at 6:15 a.m. after receiving reports of a fire on a bus.

Brady said deputies arrived to find out the school bus driver had already put out the flames, which appeared to have come from the vehicle's brakes.

Charleston County School District spokesman Jason Sakran said only four students were on the bus at the time of the incident.

There were no injuries and all students were transported safely to school, Sakran added.
