Marlins claim former Gamecocks P Dyson off waivers
MIAMI (AP) -
The Miami Marlins claimed right-hander Sam Dyson off waivers from Toronto on Wednesday, clearing that roster spot by designating outfielder Kevin Mattison for assignment.
Dyson made two appearances for the Blue Jays last July, giving up four hits and allowing three runs while recording only two outs. The Blue Jays designated him last week to make room to sign Mark DeRosa.
The former Gamecock was a 4th round pick of the Blue Jays in the 2010 MLB Draft. He went 23-9 with a 4.61 ERA in his 3 seasons with South Carolina. He also had 239 K's in 255 IP.
