Van Scyoc Impressing In His Freshman Year At The Citadel

Matt Van Scyoc plays with an edge and with confidence. The six-foot-six freshman dropped 18 points in his college debut and has scored in double-digits 11 times this season. It helps he can hit the outside shot. He's sixth in the Southern Conference in three pointers made providing relief for big man Mike Groselle.

You don't usually find a player with Van Scyoc's combination of ability and size at The Citadel.
Then again you don't usually find someone from Wisconsin at The Cid. He is the first known native of that state to play hoops for the Bulldogs.

Another reason Van Scyoc choosing the Cid is a surprise, no one in his family has a history with military colleges or academies. But he embraces the culture.

And as Van Scyoc learns more about the game he will challenge plenty of program records and maybe become the guy who leads the citadel to the big dance. Some day.

Van Scyoc is one of the top candidates for the SoCon freshman of the year honor. He's second in the league among freshman in scoring he and the bulldogs host Wofford tonight.
