Several railroad cars jumped the tracks near the BMW plant in Spartanburg County early Friday.
A helicopter flew over the scene about 6:30 a.m. and the wrecked cars were visible from the air.
The derailment was inside the plant property very near the facility in the shipping area.
No one was on the cars at the time of the incident, and injuries were reported, according to plant officials.
BMW representative Steve Wilson said EMS was called, but only as a precaution.
He said Norfolk Southern investigators were still assessing what caused the derailment.
They're still assessing the cause.
EMS was called but only as a precaution, Wilson said.
There was no immediate word on when the tracks would be cleared, Wilson said.
