BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division arrested a former HR director for the City of Hanahan in connection to the embezzlement of public funds.
Investigators charged Kimberly Crolley Murdaugh of Hanahan with one count of embezzlement of public funds of $10,000 or more.
An affidavit states that between December 2005 and March 2010, Murdaugh embezzled money while she worked at Hanahan City Hall on 1255 Yeamans Hall Road.
According to court records, Murdaugh received medical benefits for her family and failed to pay her monthly out-of-pocket premiums. City officials say the total loss to the city was $24,354.
Authorities say Murdaugh only made one partial payment in Feb. 2006. Murdaugh was locked up at the Berkeley County Detention Center.
