
Goaltender Ryan Zapolski made 29 saves for his ECHL-leading fourth shutout of the season as the South Carolina Stingrays (23-22-1-3) defeated the Gwinnett Gladiators (27-18-2-1) 2-0 at The Arena at Gwinnet Center Friday night.
Stingrays defenseman Luka Vidmar broke a scoreless tie 9:59 into the second period lifting a wrist shot over the glove of Gladiators netminder Louis Domingue (L, 23 saves on 24 shots) from the point. ForwardPhil Mangan and defenseman Cameron Brodie picked up assists.
Forward Hunter Bishop sealed the victory with his team-leading 20 goal of the season unassisted tipping a bouncing puck into an empty net with 51 seconds to play in regulation. The Stingrays finished the contest 0-for-5 on the power play while the Gladiators went 0-for-4.
The Stingrays battle the Gladiators tomorrow, Saturday, February 2 at 7:05 p.m. at The Arena at Gwinnett Center and return to the North Charleston Coliseum on Friday, February 8 to host the Evansville IceMen for the first time in team history at 7:05 p.m. Friday is Nerd-Con featuring the Carolina Garrison!
