Grocery stores packed with last-minute shoppers

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

For a lot of people, Super Bowl Sunday focuses on football, fans and food.

In the hours leading up to kick-off, the Piggly Wiggly along Meeting Street in Charleston was full of people making last-minute grocery purchases.

"We're basically going to chill out and I'm going to make some burgers and were going to have some sauerkraut and some pork that we're going to slow roast and just relax," Chris Sell says.

Sell says he will watch the game with his wife and child.

"I'm excited I get to see the Super Bowl and watch the commercials," he says. "I don't root for either one of these teams, but it's the Super Bowl - who doesn't want to watch football?"

Cheef Walker left the store with an entire cartload of Budweiser beer. He works at The Alley Charleston, where a large crowd is expected.

"The Alley is going to be the place to be right now - get your seats," he says. "I really don't care whose going to win, because right now, Charleston businesses are winning, because we're able to pull off a huge event for tonight."

The annual Walk for Water raised almost $300,000 for the local non-profit Water Mission. An estimated 5,000 people people walked three miles while carrying buckets of water in downtown Charleston to simulate the distance some people in developing countries or disaster areas must travel for access to clean water. “We don't understand the experiences that they are going through.  A three-mile walk to an unsafe water source [and] the sicknesses that come with that.  It'...More >>
