Man behind bars for downtown iPhone armed robbery

Police have arrested a 29-year-old man accused of robbing a man of his iPhone in downtown on Sunday.

The Charleston Police Department charged Theodore Robert Nelson with armed robbery, unlawful carrying of a handgun and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.

Police were responded Coming Street and Calhoun Street at 4:20 a.m. in reference to an armed robbery.

When officers arrived on scene, the victim told the officers he was just robbed of his iPhone by a man armed with a handgun. The victim then provided officers with a description of the suspect.

Officers say they searched the area and found the suspect riding a lime green bicycle in the area of Coming Street and Radcliffe Street.

According to investigators, the suspect was arrested 20 minutes after the robbery was reported to police.

Police are continuing the investigation. Nelson was locked up at the Al Cannon Detention Center.
