The 11th annual ESPN BracketBusters field was announced Monday evening, and in its first-ever time in the event The Citadel will be pitted against Big South Conference foe Presbyterian on Feb. 23 at approximately 7:45 p.m.
game, which will take place at the Templeton Center in Clinton, S.C., marks the
first time that the two programs have squared off since the 1982-83 season. The
Citadel holds a 46-22 edge in the all-time series, including a 10-game winning
streak that dates back to the 1956-57 season.
"I know our team and fans are excited about the opportunity to participate in the ESPN Bracketbusters," said head coach Chuck Driesell. "February has traditionally been the month that teams across the country want to play their best basketball. Playing against a non-conference opponent like this, in a hostile environment, will be a great way for our team to handle pressure situations in the following week leading up to the Southern Conference Tournament."
BracketBusters earned its name because of the success of the teams in NCAA Championship play.
The 122-team field will feature teams from 13 conferences: 12 each from Big South, Mid-American Conference and Ohio Valley Conference; 11 from the Big Sky; 10 each from Big West, Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, Missouri Valley and Southland Conference; nine each from Horizon and Summit Leagues; six from the Western Athletic Association; four from the Southern Conference; three from the MEAC; and two each from the America East and West Coast Conferences.
As part of the agreement the host team will play a return game at the home facility of their opponent in November or December of the 2013-14 season.
Teams participating this season in BracketBusters have produced 101 appearances in the last seven NCAA Championships.
