(RNN) - With the popularity of social networks at an all-time high, getting a 14-year-old to quit Facebook may not be the easiest task.
That wasn't the case for Paul Baier, a Boston father who got his daughter, Rachel, to sign a "Facebook Deactivation Agreement" for five months in exchange for $200.
"She has been on Facebook since age 12," Baier said. "She proposes that it goes from now through the end of the academic school year, which ends June 26."
On Tuesday, Baier posted an image of the agreement which reads:
I, Rachel, agree to deactivate my Facebook Account from 2/3 2013 to 6/26/ 2013.In return my dad, Paul Baier, agrees to pay me $50 on 4/15/ 2013 and $150 on 6/26/2013. He/she will have access to my Facebook to change the password and to deactivate the account. This will prevent me from re-activating the account in the future. I plan to use the money for the following purposes: stuff.
Rachel is an honor student, and often found Facebook to be a distraction from homework. She also needed a better way to earn cash.
"She has been frustrated that she can't find more babysitting jobs to earn cash," Baier said. "She was looking for ways to find money and came up with this idea."
Although it has only been a few days since the agreement went into effect, Baier says there haven't been any problems, so far.
"Some of her friends were surprised. Her friends have called her to tell her the reaction on Facebook," he said.
Baier doesn't think his daughter would start another account behind his back, because she knows how he would be upset and that would be "against the spirit of our agreement."
However, Rachel hasn't said what "stuff" she'll use the money for.
"I thought she would write in what she wanted. She clearly has something in mind," he said.
