Sheriff warns Hilton Head Island of peeping tom

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office is investigating several incidents of a peeping tom on the south end of Hilton Head Island.

The latest incident happened at 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the Tanglewood Villas where a 13-year-old girl reported seeing an unknown black male looking in her window.

The girl said she was walking into her room after showering and saw the suspect staring at her through her bedroom window. The girl's mother said she saw the suspect run and jump over a fence.

The suspect was described as a black male in dark clothing.

On Jan. 30, deputies responded to the Metropolitan Hotel on 36 S. Forest Beach Dr. for an indecent exposure report. The female victim, who is a desk clerk at the hotel, said around 1:30 a.m. she saw an unknown male performing a sexual act on himself while standing outside a window near the office.

The victim described the suspect as a male wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt.

On Jan. 24, deputies responded to the Beach Arbor Villas on 24 Deallyon Ave. for a report of a suspicious male seen hiding in the bushes in the courtyard area. The witness told deputies that they had seen the same male subject on several occasions in the area, between 6:45 a.m. and 7 a.m.

The witness was concerned the subject may have been attempting to watch female tennis students as they dressed in the morning. The subject was described as a black male, between 20 and 30 years old, 5'10", 160 pounds and wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt.

The sheriff's office is asking South Forest Beach area residents and business owners to be on the lookout for any suspicious person. Anyone with information is asked to call Investigator Cpl. D. Seifert at (843) 255-3414 or Crime Stoppers at 554-1111.
