Cops: Accused burglar out on bond hits veterinary clinic

JOHNS ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - Police say a man out on bond for breaking into a physical therapy center broke into a veterinary clinic on Sunday.

The Charleston Police Department charged 41-year-old James Anthony Cooper of West Ashley with second-degree burglary.

According to investigators, around 4 a.m., someone shattered the front glass doors of the River Bank Veterinary at 2814 Maybank Highway on Johns Island. A police report states that it appeared that someone had used a vehicle to break the doors to the business.

Officers say they spotted red paint transfer on the handle of the door and a fresh tire mark on the parking lot curb directly in front of the damaged door.

Police say after the suspect damaged the door, he entered the business and removed money from a lockbox.

Authorities say Cooper is on probation for a burglary that happened at Wellness Plus at 1001 Physicians Drive in West Ashley on Nov. 7 2012. In that incident, investigators say the suspect used a heavy object to force open the door.

Officers also found a set of keys that did not belong to the business.

Cooper was locked up at the Al Cannon Detention Center.
