MT. PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) - The "boastful bandit," who authorities say claimed to have pulled off 30 different robberies in the Northeast many years ago, has been granted a $600,000 bond after yesterday's robbery in Mt. Pleasant.

Craig Ozarowski, 55, is being held in the Charleston County Detention Center after he was arrested shortly after a bank robbery was reported at 9:16 a.m. Wednesday at the Sun Trust Bank in the 400 block of Johnnie Dodds Boulevard.

According to the Associated Press, Ozarowski boasted to police in the 1980s he had pulled off 30 robberies, 13 of them at banks.  Additionally, he was allegedly known to call authorities and challenge them to catch him after the robberies.

Mount Pleasant Police Major Stan Gragg said Ozarowski threatened employees with a gun and got away with an undetermined amount of cash.  Court documents confirm he made off with just over $1,600.

Ozarowski, a registered guest at the Holiday Inn Express next door, ran back to the hotel immediately after the robbery, Gragg said.

The bandit, who was staying on the fourth floor, was arrested without incident a few minutes later. Officers recovered an air-soft pistol in Ozarowski's hotel room.

Gragg said an explosives team swept the hotel, based on threats the suspect made during his arrest.

No explosives were found.

Ozarowski, who confessed to the robbery, according to court documents, has been charged with armed robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.
