CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Officials with the Charleston Police Department say a truck driver who ran over a local musician on I-526 this past August will not be charged.

Police spokesman Charles Francis said an investigation into the incident revealed that the truck driver who hit Nick Collins did not violate any traffic laws.

On Aug. 3, Nick Collins was riding in a car with two others when the car crashed near Daniel Island and ejected him onto I-526.

Collins was then hit by a truck while on the highway, crushing him from the pelvis down. His left leg had to be amputated.

"I don't even call it a horrible experience. The beginning was rough but since then, take out the pain and, it's just been a great experience," Collins said in December as he was recuperating in a hospital bed at MUSC. "It's pulled me and my parents closer... and I feel like it's going to stay that way for the rest of my life."
