WEST ASHLEY, SC (WCSC) -

A 52-year-old man is behind bars accused of stabbing his house guest during an argument at an apartment in West Ashley.

The Charleston Police Department charged 52-year-old Ruben Lamar III with second-degree assault and battery.

On Tuesday afternoon, police responded to a home on Orange Grove Road in reference to a stabbing.

Authorities then found the 29-year-old victim outside with a shoelace tied to his left thigh which had a cut. The victim was then transported to St. Francis Hospital.

Officers then located Ruben at the apartment where the alleged assault happened. Ruben told police that he was helping the victim out for the last several days by letting him stay at his place.

According to Ruben, he was making dinner in the kitchen when he and the victim began an argument.

Ruben said when the victim attempted to kick him, Ruben pointed a knife at the victim and struck him in the left thigh.

Police say the victim then left the apartment and called police. Ruben was locked up at the Charleston County Detention Center.
