Teenager accused of burglarizing James Island home

JAMES ISLAND, SC (WCSC) -

The Charleston Police Department arrested a 17-year-old on Monday accused of burglarizing a James Island home.

Authorities charged Derick Alexander Hammond with second-degree burglary.

On Monday, officers responded to a home on Affirmation Boulevard in reference to a burglary. Authorities say someone had entered the home and stolen jewelry, money and electronic equipment.

Hammond was locked up at the Al Cannon Detention Center.

Police are continuing the investigation.
