RAVENEL, SC (WCSC) - Investigators with the Charleston County Sheriff's Office have charged a second man in the murder of a 25-year-old West Ashley woman that happened last year at a nightclub in Ravenel.
Detectives arrested 21-year-old Derrick S. Brown Jr. Friday afternoon and charged him with murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime. Authorities say the charges are a result of a continued investigation into the Aug. 18 shooting death of Dominique Grant at Frazier's Club.
According to detectives, Grant was shot while she was in the driver's side of a vehicle parked at the club.
Detectives say it all started when Brown was reportedly involved in an altercation at another location earlier in the evening. An incident report states that Brown believed that the people responsible for the earlier incident were in a vehicle parked at Frazier's Club.
The sheriff's office says Brown then asked 25-year-old Reginald L. Gordon if he had his gun, to which Gordon replied that he had it in his car.
According to detectives, Brown then got the gun out of Gordon's Buick, pulled his shirt over his face and fired multiple rounds into Grant's vehicle.
Shortly after the incident, the Charleston Police Department responded to the Kangaroo Gas Station at 106 Main Road in reference to a disturbance. Officers say while they were investigating, they spotted a black glock pistol in plain view in a white Buick Century.
Gordon was identified as the driver of the Buick. Detectives say a ballistics test by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division confirmed that a shell casing found at the shooting scene matched test fired casings from the glock located in the Buick.
Brown is scheduled to have a bond hearing Saturday morning.
On Wednesday night, the U.S. Marshals Office arrested Gordon and charged him with murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.
