Crews are working to stop the spread of bacteria after a sewer overflow released over 600,000 gallons of sewage in North Charleston.
According to the North Charleston Sewer District, the spill occurred Thursday near the intersection of Mabelene Road and Wettereau Avenue. The sanitary sewer overflow has released 600,698 gallons of sewage from a 30" force main.
Crews are working to vacuum and pump up sewage back into the sewer system.
Officials say a disinfectant solution has been applied to the affected area to reduce bacteria.
Public health agencies have been notified.
