I-95 lanes reopened after 18-wheeler wreck; driver cited

DORCHESTER COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Authorities say they have cleared the overturned 18-wheeler which blocked the northbound lanes of Interstate 95 in Dorchester County on Friday for several hours.

South Carolina Highway Patrol Senior Trooper Bridget Wyant said the wreck happened at 11 a.m. at mile marker 70, when the truck overturned on the right side of the roadway.

Wyant said traffic was re-routed a couple miles south of the wreck, at exit 68.

The road was reopened around before 2:30 p.m., according to Wyant.

No one was injured in the wreck, but the trucker has been cited for driving too fast for conditions.

Wyant said 48-year-old Israel Garcia, of Charlotte, was trying to pass another 18-wheeler when the wheels on the left side of the rig left the pavement, causing the load to shift.

Garcia then overcorrected back to the right, and the semi overturned.
