St. Maarten murder suspect to remain jailed

ST. MAARTEN (WCSC)- One of the suspects accused of murdering a Mount pleasant couple will stay behind bars after a court hearing Wednesday in St. Maarten.

Meyshane Johnson is among three men officials say stabbed to death Mike and Thelma King last year at their St. Maarten home.

Wednesday Johnson's attorney argued he should not remain in jail since  prosecutors made technical mistakes while summoning him.

During another hearing Monday, the decision was made to reconstruct the murder scene at the King's St. Maarten home March 8.

A judge will decide whether to show the video of it to the public when the three men go on trial in April for the murders.

A King family spokesperson released a statement Wednesday about the court proceedings in St. Maarten this week.

" We hope the reconstruction will answer some remaining questions. We are also relieved that a mere technicality, the defense had argued, did not result in the release of Meyshane Johnson earlier today."

Jeremiah Mills and Jamal Jefferson Woolford are also accused of having involvement in the murders.
