DORCHESTER COUNTY, SC (WCSC) -

Authorities have arrested a 36-year-old man, who is wanted by authorities, after officers found bags of marijuana following a car and foot chase in St. George.

The St. George Police Department arrested Jeffrey Gerald Britt.

On Wednesday morning, a police officer was on patrol in the area of Memorial Boulevard when he said he spotted Britt, who was wanted by county authorities, driving a car.

Police say the officer then pulled Britt over in front of Boyd Furniture Company on 5732 Memorial Boulevard. According to investigators, a chase then started after Britt backed up toward the officer's patrol car and got back on the road.

An incident report states that at one point during the chase, Britt attempted to make a left turn onto Rebecca Drive but lost control of the car.

Authorities say the car then spun out into a field where the vehicle got stuck. Officers say Britt, with a black item in his left hand, jumped out of the vehicle and ran into the woods with the officer not far behind.

The suspect then gave up and was arrested.

According to a police report, Britt threw the item he was holding on top of an abandoned mobile home. Police say the item recovered from the roof contained several bags of marijuana.
