BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCSC) -
"Drive Like Your Child Lives Here" is the slogan of a new safety campaign at Sangaree elementary, middle and intermediate schools.
The Berkeley County School District is working with the sheriff's office to crack down on speeders and reckless drivers near the schools.
Erratic driving in and around the area has been a concern for the school, parents and the community for a long time.
Now, school officials are hoping a new safety campaign will remind drivers to slow down, be alert and watch for children.
The campaign kicked off on Tuesday. The Berkeley County Sheriff's Office is working closely with the school district by placing a deputy at the school. They've also added and extra crossing guard.
The message of the campaign is take responsibility when you're behind the wheel and follow traffic laws.
The speed limit in the area is 35 miles per hour and school officials say sometimes people driver 10 even 15 miles per hour over the speed limit.
