Deputies arrest man accused of shoplifting at sporting goods store

BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - The Moncks Corner Police Department say a 48-year-old man, who was caught on surveillance video shoplifting from a sporting goods store, was arrested by deputies.

Police say Berkeley County Sheriff's deputies arrested Robert Lawton White as he was walking down a street on Wednesday. White is charged with shoplifting and property crime enhancement.

On Friday, police responded to Anglers Sporting Goods on 605 N. Highway 52 in reference to a shoplifting.

An employee told authorities that he saw the suspect in the store acting nervous.

When the employee asked the suspect if he could help him with something, the suspect said,"No, I'm waiting for my brother," and began to walk around the store.

As the employee went to help another customer, he noticed that the suspect left the store.

When store personnel reviewed surveillance video, the suspect was seen placing an electric fillet knife, valued at $61, under his shirt and walking out of the store.

The employee also said that the suspect was "the same guy from last time." According to police, the suspect has shoplifted from the store before.

On Monday, store personnel identified White as the suspect through a photo line up.
