MONCKS CORNER, SC (WCSC) - A recent increase in fighting and overall bad behavior has led to a lockdown at the Hill-Finklea Detention Center in Moncks Corner, according to Berkeley County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Dan Moon.
Moon said the lockdown at the detention center has been in effect since Tuesday, Feb. 19. The inmates are being disciplined for bad behavior that is getting out of hand.
In addition to the lockdown, inmates are having their phone calls and visitation privileges taken away.
"It's like kids acting up in school," said Moon. " And we are taking away their recess."
According to Moon, this type of lockdown is a common occurrence and often used by detention centers to regain control and correct bad behavior.
Moon said it is likely the lockdown will be lifted later this week.
