
The South Carolina Stingrays announced today that the team has received defenseman Ryan McGinnis from the Florida Everblades. The transaction completes the future considerations of the Matt Beca/Matthew Pistilli trade made on December 31, 2012.
McGinnis, 25, skated in 21 games with the Everblades scoring eight assists and 12 penalty minutes. Last season, the Flint, Michigan, native spit time between the Everblades and Syracuse Crunch of the American Hockey League (AHL) netting 11 points (one goal, 10 assists) in 33 games in Florida and two assists in 30 contests with the Crunch. In 170 total ECHL games, with Florida and the Kalamazoo Wings, McGinnis buried 13 goals and 70 assists for 83 points. At the AHL level with Syracuse, Manitoba, Norfolk and Albany, the 6-foot-2, 205-pound defenseman added 13 points (one goal, 12 assists) in 101 contests.
Drafted in the sixth round of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft by the Los Angeles Kings, McGinnis skated five seasons of junior hockey with the Plymouth Whalers and Oshawa Generals of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) and helped the Whalers capture the OHL championship in 2006-07.
