6,000 gallons of sewage spilled in Summerville

SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) - About 6,000 gallons of untreated sewage overflowed on Orangeburg Road in Summerville on Tuesday, authorities say.

According to Dorchester County Administrator Jason Ward, a sewer main failure occurred at 216 Orangeburg Road. The spill has since been contained,

Ward said work was underway to repoair the pipe and surrounding areas will soon be disinfected.

He also said the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control had been notified.
