PAWLEYS ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - Deputies have charged a second man for the arson of a law office on Pawleys Island.
Officials with the Georgetown County Sheriff's Office charged 41-year-old Ronnie Gene Ackley Jr. with second-degree burglary and arson in connection to a fire that happened at the Toni Pennington Law Firm last month. A sheriff's office report states that Ackley's charges stem from evidence showing him as being an accomplice in the arson.
Ackley was charged Wednesday afternoon at the Georgetown County Detention Center where he is being held on unrelated charges.
On Jan. 13, deputies responded to 9259 Ocean Highway for a report of a suspicious fire. Investigators say they found the front door of the law firm's office forced open along with other evidence supporting arson.
Investigators have already charged Matthew Donald Kelly with second-degree burglary and arson. According to the sheriff's office, Kelly is the owner of Lumpy's Bar and Grill which shares a building with the law office.
