JetBlue celebrates inaugural flights out of Charleston

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - JetBlue Airways will celebrate its inaugural flights out of Charleston International Airport on Thursday.

The discount airline will have three daily non-stop flights out of Charleston – two going to New York and the third to Boston. Because of high demand, another flight to Boston was added for Saturdays.

"We're super excited about being here. It's a great place for us…a great partnership…the community here has been fantastic so we're really excited to launch service," said the airline's GM Chris Plunkett.

"We're constantly getting comments from customers saying they're excited we are here and how they're looking forward to our service."

JetBlue has hired seven Lowcountry locals as part of the expansion of service.

The first plane, headed to New York City, took off at 11:50 a.m.
