Man accused of using Facebook to solicit sex from girls

JOHNS ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - Bond was set at $300,000 for a 46-year-old Johns Island man accused of using Facebook and Meebo to solicit sex from two girls.

The Charleston Police Department arrested Glen Rogers on Wednesday and charged him with disseminating obscene material to person under the age of 18 and two counts of criminal solicitation of a minor.

An affidavit states on June 10, 2012, Rogers used Meebo and Facebook on his cell phone to contact a 17-year-old girl who lives in Pottsville, Pa. with the intent of persuading the teen to have sex.

A statement provided by the victim read,"Glen had made sexual comments and comments about sex. He told me that he would come to Pottsville to have sex with me."

The victim said the suspect "talked about coming up in a couple of weeks and she could sneak out and they would stay in a hotel."

The victim also described the conversations were generally of a sexual nature and the suspect would coerce her to be with him. A detective presented a photo of the suspect to the victim, which the victim positively identified as Rogers.

According to court records, on June 12, 2012, Rogers used his cell phone to send several nude photos of himself to the girl.

Authorities say Rogers also used Facebook and Hotmail to communicate with a 16-year-old girl in Hastings, Fla. on Oct. 26, 2011 to persuade her to have sex.

The victim told authorities the suspect "talked about getting me pregnant at sixteen and having sex and me running away with him."

According to court records, the suspect told the girl several times that he traveled to Florida regularly for work and attempted to set up meetings with her. Authorities say the suspect encouraged the girl to lie to her parents to get the girl to leave her home.
