Goose Creek before the gameIrmo's Justin McKie had 20 points and 10 rebounds and Goose Creek couldn't put together enough offense as the Gators dream season came to an end in the AAAA State Finals with a 65-46 loss to the Yellow Jackets on Friday night in Columbia.
Goose Creek got an early boost from Shaquille Patrick who put the Gators on the board first with a 3. He would go on to lead the team with 18 points. Dantez Bennamon also chipped in 11.
Irmo would take control midway through the first quarter, building their lead off a combination of outside shooting and going inside to guys like Javis Howard. The Yellow Jackets were up 7 after 1 and extended the lead to 28-14 at the half.
"I think the kids were a little tight early on" Gators Head Coach Blake Hall said "When you take out of rhythm shots early on, tougher ones come later in the game."
From there, Irmo would never look back. They would continue to build the lead in the 3rd capped off by a buzzer beating banked in three pointer from DeTrek Browning to end the quarter with a 44-26 lead and cruised through the 4th for the victory.
The Yellow Jackets finish the season 29-0.
