Mother sentenced to 20 years in SC toddler death

BENNETTSVILLE, S.C. (AP) - A 27-year-old Bennettsville mother has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for the death of her 3-year-old daughter.

Atelia Hunt was sentenced Friday after pleading guilty Friday to homicide by child abuse and unlawful conduct toward a child.

Hunt's daughter died in October 2011. Authorities say Edna Trinity Mozzel Hunt had been severely abused for months before her death and had a severe urinary tract infection and blood clots in her brain.

Atelia Hunt's boyfriend is slated to go on trial later this year for homicide by child abuse and first-degree criminal sexual conduct. Authorities say the girl's abuse began shortly after her mother moved in with Mike Huckabee Jr.
