Anderson County authorities are investigating after a man was killed by a hay bale Sunday morning.
Shortly after 9:00 a.m., the Friendship Fire Department responded to the call at 893 Holiday Dam Road.
Authorities said the man, identified as 55-year-old David Knight, was using an old tractor with a front end that resembled a forklift to move the hay. Investigators said while the bale was lifted off the ground, it rolled back over the tractor and onto the man. The hay bale was estimated to weigh between 800 and 1,000 pounds.
Investigators said the man was found by his son, who had gone out to the pasture to check on his father because he did not return to the home when expected.
Emergency crews at the scene tried but failed to resuscitate him.
