Coroner identifies man hit by car in Harleyville

DORCHESTER COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - The Dorchester County coroner has identified the man killed Monday evening after being struck by a car in Harleyville.

Coroner Chris Nisbet identified the victim as 54-year-old Joseph Fields.

South Carolina Highway Patrol Lance Corporal Sonny Collins said Fields was killed on Second Bend Road around 5 p.m.

Collins said the motorist was heading south in a 2007 Chrysler when they struck Fields, who was in the middle of the roadway.  Nisbet said he was apparently sitting down.

He was later pronounced dead.

According to Nisbet, Fields is believed to have been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the collision.

No charges will be filed against the motorist, according to Collins.
