Driver charged for head-on collision that injured 9 in Colleton Co.

COLLETON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) -

The South Carolina Highway Patrol has charged a 49-year-old man in connection to a head-on collision in Colleton County that injured nine people.

Investigators charged Gerald Munoz with driving left of center.

Colleton County Fire and Rescue officials say the accident happened at 1:31 p.m. on Wednesday at US 17, two miles south of the Green Pond Community on Highway 303.

According to authorities, a minivan, driven by Munoz, crossed the center line and struck a bus carrying seven elderly people. Rescue officials say the impact caused 2/3 of the passenger side of the bus to be ripped off.

Three people were flown to the Trauma Center at MUSC in Charleston. The remaining patients were transported to the Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro.

The accident backed up traffic in the area for six miles in both directions.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
