WILLIAMSBURG COUNTY, SC (WCSC) -

The Williamsburg County Coroner's Office has released the identity of the elderly woman who died during a kitchen fire at her Heminway home on Wednesday.

The coroner identified the victim as 82-year-old Sulla M. Nesmith.

Officials with the Williamsburg County Fire Department say the fire happened at a home on Turner Road.

Nesmith was found sometime between 6 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. when her son came home from work.

Fire officials said she was apparently trying to put out a cooking fire by removing the pot from the stove when she fell to the floor, and was then consumed by the fire.

The fire was contained to the kitchen, and damaged the cabinets, but nothing else.
