WALTERBORO, SC (WCSC) -
Walterboro Public Safety officers now say an employee at a gun shop did not accidentally shoot himself in the foot last week; he was actually shot by the owner.
According to a statement released by the department, the 58-year-old employee at the Walterboro Gun Shop on Jeffries Boulevard suffered a gunshot wound to his foot last Thursday when the owner accidently fired a weapon he was examining.
Last week, the employee told investigators that while he was clearing a handgun the weapon discharged and he was hit in the foot, according to police.
The handgun had been brought into the store by a customer.
Walterboro Public Safety has closed the investigation and ruled out any foul play.
The Walterboro Gun Shop is where Alice Boland, the 28-year-old woman accused of trying to kill an Ashley Hall school official in downtown Charleston, purchased her handgun last month.
