NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A juvenile student at Liberty Hill Academy is facing an assault charge after police say she hit a teaching assistant in the face.
North Charleston police said the assault happened on Thursday around 11 a.m. at the school on West Enterprise Street.
According to an incident report, the student was trying to exit an "Intervention Room" without permission when the victim and another staff member tried to restrain her. During the fracas, the student hit the teaching assistant in the face, according to witnesses.
The juvenile was charged with third-degree assault and battery and released to her uncle, the report states.
Charleston County School District spokesman Jason Sakran said all students at the school are either behaviorally or mentally challenged.
