WALTERBORO, SC (WCSC) - A man was critically injured over the weekend after authorities say his motorycle collided head-on with a car in Walterboro.
According to Colleton County Fire & Rescue Chief Barry McRoy, the wreck happened in the 1800 block of Bells Highway on Sunday.
McRoy said the motorcyclist was heading east when he struck the front of a car that was exiting a restaurant. The motorcyclist was ejected and received multiple traumatic injuries, including a severe leg injury.
He was not wearing a helmet, according to McRoy.
The wreck happened just blocks away from the Colleton Medical Center, so the victim was quickly flown to the Trauma Center at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.
He remains in critical condition, McRoy said.
Walterboro Public Safety is investigating the crash. Traffic on the busy Bells Highway was detoured for about 45 minutes.
